VSA (Virtual Server Agent)

Microsoft Hyper-V
Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV)
OpenStack
VMware (vCenter or ESX server)

Disk space required:
/a/ 1 GB free space during agent installation
/b/ 500 MB free space on disk for log directory

VSA requirements for the most common types of virtualisation:
Vmware (vCenter or ESX server) - VSA agent installed on at least one physical or virtual machine (Windows operating system),
Hyper-V - VSA agent installed on Hyper-V host (for standalone configuration) or on Hyper-V node(s) (configuration for Hyper-V cluster protection),
OpenStack: VSA agent installed on an instance in the OpenStack data centre.

Note: for this type of backup, the user is responsible for the correct installation of the VSA agent on their virtualised infrastructure.

Network - Internet and TCP port

Communication between the agent and the platform takes place via the Internet, so the server infrastructure must have access to it. The transmission itself is encrypted, the stored data on the Atman Backup platform is also encrypted.

For those of your servers to be covered by Atman Backup, an open TCP port 8403 is required through which the agent (iDA) will communicate and exchange data with the Atman Backup platform infrastructure.

Antivirus exceptions

Anti-virus scanning can cause performance problems or prevent backup tasks from being performed properly at all if anti-virus exceptions are not correctly configured. The table below shows the exceptions that need to be taken into account on the servers covered by Atman Backup:

Windows family

Linux family

Software Installation Path:
*:Program FilesCommvaultContentStore

Software install directory:
/opt/Commvault/*

Job Results folder:
*:Program FilesCommvaultContentStore andDataAgentJobResults

Job Results directory:
/opt/Commvault/iDataAgent/jobResults

For VSA in a VMWare environment, Job Results folder:
*:Program FilesCommvaultContentStore andDataAgentJobResults

Directory to extract installation binaries:
/tmp/.gxsetup

Care should be taken to ensure that anti-virus scanning is not performed during backup tasks.
